    About the Artist

Dominic Scibilia has earned his share of kudos. Having work published in American Illustration and receiving awards from The Advertising Club of New York (Andy Awards) and The Art Director's Club of Cincinnati doesn't come easy. Yet, to Dom, The Lifetime Achievement Award from The Northern Ohio Illustrator's Society (The NOISmaker Award), an honor that confirms his deep roots in Cleveland, probably means more. It's local. It's from the people he knows well. That's so much more important to Dom.

Dom's career as a professional illustrator began shortly after his graduation from The Cleveland Institute of Art with stints at American Greetings and E&R Graphics. Later, he became the owner of The Art Plant. In 1980, he returned to The Institute to give back, sharing his illustration talents with students. He's still there today, now as Professor and the Department Head of Illustration. Yet to those who know and love him, he's still Dom. We thank him for contributing his incredible talent to The Cleveland Independents website.

Dom's Process. After creating black and white images with a technique called tempra resist, Dom scanned, assembled and colorized them digitally and gave the art an overall distressed treatment by adding digital effects. The result? The many outstanding images you see on our site.
